ParticipantWell, yeah, not just you. Mine’s been getting hammered with the same stupid signup junk all week, like they just rotate usernames and keep going. Honestly it feels worse than usual lately. The…

ParticipantYeah, same here. One of mine got hit like a brick and GSC’s been acting sketchy, so I’m not rushing to call it an update either. Google’s reporting is half the problem half the time. Just my experience.

ParticipantWell, yeah, that’s pretty much what I’ve seen too. The “looks fine in GSC, then traffic drops once Google settles” thing is real enough that I don’t even get excited when indexing finally catches up anymore. Half the time it just means the site’s getting measured against the actual clean set instead of the messy junk that was floating around before. And honestly, on WP I’ve had canonicals do dumb stuff for no good reason. Not always a plugin conflict either — sometimes it’s just the default setup being weird and Google taking its sweet time to sort it out. By the time it does, the rankings are already moved and everyone’s pretending it’s some big update mystery. Pike’s probably gonna say it’s “just cleanup” like that makes it less annoying, but yeah… if the site was leaning on duplicate crap, it was gonna get exposed sooner or later.

ParticipantInteresting take. Honestly, i mean, yeah, same here. The “nothing changed on my end” part is what makes it extra annoying, cause that usually means it’s Google doing its little mood swing thing again. I wouldn’t even call it a real drop until it sits there for a few days, honestly. Half the time it’s just one section getting kneecapped while the rest of the site pretends everything’s normal. That’s been my experience anyway.

ParticipantI mean, yeah, I’m seeing it too. Feels like Google’s just picking stuff at random again and calling it “normal” or whatever. Could be wrong though.
meloncrash
ParticipantSure. Yeah, it’s been like that for a bit now. The “quality” talk sounds great until you’ve got two near-identical pages and one’s in the basement while the other’s doing victory laps. At this point I mostly assume Google’s just poking stuff and seeing what sticks I mean,. Which is a fun way to run a search engine, apparently. Just my experience. Right…

ParticipantYeah, it’s been worse on a couple of mine too. The weird part is it doesn’t even look like the old obvious bot junk half the time, just garbage that somehow still gets past the dumb basic filters. I’m honestly getting tired of “just add CAPTCHA” being the answer to everything. Half the time that just annoys real people and the bots still stroll through anyway.

ParticipantPersonally, Honestly, kind of feels like yeah, it’s been uglier lately. I’ve had a couple sites where the spam just turned into random word salad instead of the usual obvious junk. Nathan’s not wrong about the plugin angle, though I hate saying that because half the time it’s always “just change plugins” like that fixes the whole mess. One of mine was getting hammered through a newsletter signup form I barely even looked at for months. I’m still not convinced CAPTCHA is worth the headache unless it’s really bad. The bots seem to cruise right past the…

ParticipantYeah, same here. Feels like one of those stupid waves again. I’ve had weeks where it’s dead quiet and then overnight it’s like somebody flipped a switch. Annoying part is half the time it’s not even a “real” attack, just some bot junk finding the easiest door in.
meloncrash
ParticipantOkay then. Yeah, same here. One site I’ve got looked fine all week then yesterday it just kinda slid for no obvious reason, while some old garbage page I haven’t touched in forever got a little bump. Classic Google nonsense. I’m not doing anything yet either. Every time I’ve chased this stuff too fast it’s just been noise and I end up making it worse for no reason. If it’s still doing the same stupid flip-flop in a few days, then maybe there’s something worth looking at. Right now it just feels like one of those “let’s move stuff around and see who panics” days. That’s been my experience anyway. Right…

ParticipantI mean, yeah, I’d still bet on Google messing around more than a plugin doing a stealth nuke. That said, if it’s just one post, I’d at least check the rendered source for dumb stuff like noindex/canonical weirdness. WP updates have screwed me before in the most annoying low-key way possible.
meloncrash
ParticipantI mean, yeah, same here. It’s usually a wave when it’s this sloppy and repetitive. If it was just one board getting hit I’d wonder about a leak somewhere, but if they’re spraying the same junk everywhere it’s probably just bot noise. Annoying as hell though. In my opinion,

ParticipantWell, yeah, same here. One site got hit like a brick, another just started sliding for no obvious reason, which is honestly worse because you keep waiting for it to “settle” and it never really does. And of course the usual crowd will be in here saying “check your content quality” like that explains a 40% drop overnight. Sure, mate, Google’s magical quality meter just happened to hate half the web at once. I’ve seen enough of these now to not trust the tidy explanations. Feels more like they moved the mess around again and called it improvement. Interesting take.

ParticipantTo be fair, yeah, I’m seeing weird little dips too. Not a full wreck, just enough to make you stare at GSC like it owes you money. Same deal here — nothing changed on the sites, no plugin drama, no hosting nonsense, and then a couple pages just… drop. I’ve had this happen before and it usually settles back down after a few days, which is super annoying because you can’t tell if it’s Google being weird or something quietly getting devalued. If it was a real site issue I’d expect at least one obvious clue, but when Search Console is basically acting innocent I start leaning wobble too. Still hate it though.
meloncrash
ParticipantTo be fair, right… Yeah, that’s basically been the pattern for me too — money pages get clipped first and then Google acts like the rest of the site is fine, which is hilarious in the worst way. I wouldn’t trust the “same pages, same links, nothing changed” angle… Obviously.
