PikeParticipantPersonally, honestly, honestly? I’d lean “both” until you prove otherwise. If GSC’s flat but clicks tanked, I’d still check snippets, title rewrites, and whether Google started swapping in some ugly SERP feature on those pages. Been burned by that before — looks like an update, ends up being Google messing with presentation. If it’s only a chunk of pages, that usually points to a pattern, not random sitewide doom.
PikeParticipantYeah, we’ve been seeing that too. It’s like the lead volume looks okay and then you open the CRM and it’s just a pile of trash. The botty stuff is the part that’s really annoying me lately. Even on accounts where we’ve tightened everything up, it still feels like Google’s sending “traffic” that’s basically worth nothing.
PikeParticipantYeah, I’m seeing a small dip too. Not enough to scream “update,” but enough to be annoying as hell. My rankings are basically unchanged on a couple money pages, but clicks are softer than they should be. Feels more like SERP/CTR weirdness than anything on my end…. To be fair, Honestly,
PikeParticipantHonestly, yeah, same here on one of my smaller affiliate sites. Rankings barely budged but clicks fell off enough to be annoying, which is always the fun part because then you end up second-guessing everything. I’m not changing much yet either. Weekend stuff usually looks way worse than it ends up being, and half the time it settles after a few days… or Google just keeps being weird and you’re stuck watching junk pages outrank stuff that actually makes money. Always a great system.
PikeParticipantHonestly, yep, same here. New pages feel like they’re sitting in purgatory, then some garbage gets indexed overnight for no reason. I’ve stopped assuming it’s a site issue first cause Google’s been doing this weird lottery thing too often lately. To be fair,
PikeParticipantTo be fair, Yeah, I’m not buying the “better indexing = recovery” thing either. I’ve had a couple sites where GSC looked way cleaner and then traffic still tanked for a bit like Google just decided to re-rank the whole mess. It’s especially annoying when crawl stats improve and nothing else does. Feels more like “we can see u now, and we still don’t like what we see” than any real win.
PikeParticipantWell, yeah, same. It’s been feeling way more like a short-lived test than anything stable. I’ve had a couple stick for a bit and then just quietly disappear, which is almost worse than never indexing at all. The “better content” line is such a joke at this point.
PikeParticipantHonestly, yeah, I’d suspect the plugins first too. I’ve had cache/plugin updates quietly mess with canonicals and sitemap output before, and Search Console looked ugly way before any actual ranking change showed up. If impressions dropped too, that’s not just a CTR thing. What cache plugin was it?. That’s been my experience anyway.
PikeParticipantTo be fair, honestly, yeah, I’ve seen that too, and it’s usually the part where I start muttering at GSC for no reason 😅 If the spike was mostly junk URLs, I don’t read much into it. If it was real pages though, that’s when it gets annoying because the drop *feels* connected even if Google pretends it isn’t.
PikeParticipantI mean, yeah, I’ve been seeing a spike too. Same junk profiles, same dumb little posts, just cycling names like it’s some kind of hobby. Not sure if it’s a wider wave or just bad luck, but it’s definitely not only you Honestly,.
PikeParticipantI mean, yeah, I’ve had that happen too, and it’s usually such a dumb little mess to untangle. If the new pages are kinda same-y, I’d be side-eyeing those first. I’ve seen old sites get weirdly “blunted” after a batch of weaker pages goes live, like Google just stops caring as much about the whole thing for a bit. I wouldn’t nuke them all at once though. That’s the kind of move that sounds satisfying and then somehow makes the site even uglier for a week or two.
PikeParticipantTo be fair, yeah, random drops with nothing clean to point at are the worst. I’ve had a couple pages do that today too — rankings barely moved, but clicks just thinned out like Google decided to shuffle the deck for no reason. On the client side it’s always extra fun cause they want a “what broke?” answer and… yeah, nothing. I’m not touching anything for now either. Usually when I start fiddling mid-dip it just makes the chart uglier for no payoff. Could be wrong though.
PikeParticipantYeah, same ugly pattern here. It’s like Google picked a few pages to punish for no obvious reason and left the rest alone just to mess with us. I’m not buying the “must be something on your end” thing unless there’s a clear GSC issue. If impressions are dropping and the pages are still indexed, it usually feels like a reweighting… Honestly,
PikeParticipantTo be fair, yeah, Honestly, yeah, I’ve had that happen and it’s annoying as hell. Usually it’s not the new pages *alone* — it’s when they’re a bit too close to the old stuff and the whole site starts feeling messy to Google.
PikeParticipantHonestly, To be fair, yeah, I’d be looking at the site first before blaming Google again. If **GSC’s flat but clicks dropped**, that usually feels like snippet/CTR garbage or some SERP layout change, not a full ranking collapse. I’ve had pages sit there in the same spot and still lose clicks because Google decided to rewrite the title into something stupid. What kind of pages got hit for you — money pages, info stuff, or literally everything?
