      I’ve been rebuilding a few smaller niche sites over the last couple of months and wanted to share a practical update on what’s actually holding up in terms of AI content workflows, internal linking, and affiliate monetization.

      A lot of the discussion lately seems to fall into two extremes:

      1. “AI content is dead”
      2. “Just pump out 500 articles and rank everything”

      In my experience, both are too simplistic.

      What I’m seeing is that AI can still be useful, but only when it’s part of a controlled workflow. The sites that are doing okay are not the ones publishing the most content — they’re the ones with decent topical structure, better-than-average editing, and a clear internal linking plan from day one.

      ### What I’m testing

      For one of my smaller affiliate sites, I’m using AI mainly for:

      – initial outlines
      – first-draft sections
      – FAQ expansion
      – internal link suggestions
      – content refreshes

      I’m **not** letting it write full articles blindly and publish them as-is. That approach still seems to produce a lot of thin, repetitive pages that don’t really differentiate themselves.

      ### A few things that seem to matter more than people admit

      #### 1. Internal linking is doing more than expected
      I’ve been mapping clusters manually before publishing, then using AI only to help identify related subtopics. That’s been more effective than trying to “auto-link everything” after the fact.

      On one site, pages with stronger internal link paths started moving faster than similar pages with better on-page keyword usage but weaker structure. That doesn’t prove causation, but it’s enough for me to keep prioritizing it.

      #### 2. Content refreshes are underrated
      Instead of constantly publishing new pages, I’ve had better results updating existing articles with:

      – better comparisons
      – clearer definitions
      – updated product info
      – stronger affiliate CTAs
      – improved FAQ sections

      This is especially noticeable on pages that already have some impressions but aren’t converting well.

      #### 3. AI output still needs human filtering
      I know this is obvious, but it’s where most workflows break down. The issue isn’t just factual accuracy — it’s also tone, depth, and usefulness.
