Yeah, same mess here. I’m seeing the usual bursty junk accounts too, which makes me think it’s one of those rotating bot batches and not just some random drive-by. What’s helped me more than anything is tightening the first couple steps, not just the signup form itself. Stuff like email verification, slowing repeated attempts, and a dumb little honeypot field still catches a surprising amount without annoying real people too much. If you’re on WordPress, I’d also look at whether the spam is coming through a specific plugin route. I’ve had forms get hammered while the normal registration stayed mostly clean, which is always fun because it looks like “the site” is broken when it’s really one weak entry point. And yeah, the captcha-everywhere crowd can shove it. Half. At least from what I’ve seen.
