Honestly, yeah, that “clean hit” thing is rare now. Usually it’s just Google quietly wrecking the mix and then everyone sits there staring at charts like “well, that’s fun.” I’ve seen a few affiliate sites get hammered like this where the pages are still indexed, nothing’s broken, but the traffic just falls off because the SERPs got more garbage in them. Rankings can look only a bit worse and the clicks still get murdered. What’s annoying is you can’t even tell if it’s page quality, intent shift, or just Google changing what it wants to show this week. Half the time it’s not even your site, it’s the whole query set getting uglier. If it’s a main site, I’d be looking at which page types lost the most first. Usually there’s a pattern even when the overall drop looks random.
