ParticipantI’ve been testing a few AI-assisted internal linking workflows on a couple of niche sites over the last few months, and I’m curious whether anyone else has seen consistent ranking movement from this or if it’s mostly just a convenience play.
My setup is pretty simple:
– A few WordPress sites in the 20k–80k pageview range
– Mostly informational content with some affiliate pages mixed in
– Manual internal linking for the core money pages
– AI used only to suggest contextual links, not to auto-publish them blindlyWhat I’ve noticed so far:
1. **Pages with stronger internal link support do seem to get crawled faster**
This part is not surprising. When I add links from relevant supporting articles into a page that was previously a bit isolated, Google seems to pick up updates quicker.2. **Ranking gains are inconsistent**
I’ve had cases where a page moved from positions 11–15 into the top 5 after improving internal link structure, but I’ve also seen pages change almost nothing. So I’m hesitant to credit the AI part specifically.3. **The quality of the linking context matters more than the number of links**
This is where I think a lot of people overdo it. If the anchor and surrounding paragraph are weak, adding 20 more internal links doesn’t seem to help much. In some cases it just makes the content look bloated.4. **AI suggestions still need manual review**
The tools I tested were decent at finding semantically related pages, but they sometimes recommended awkward anchors or pages that were topically close but strategically wrong. For example, linking a broad informational post to a transactional page can work, but only if the intent actually matches.I’m also wondering if anyone has experimented with using AI to build internal link maps based on topic clusters and then comparing that against a more traditional silo structure. My suspicion is that the best results come from a hybrid approach: planned architecture plus AI-assisted execution.
A few questions for the group:
– Are you seeing measurable ranking improvements from AI-generated internal linking suggestions?
– Do you trust tools to recommend anchors, or do you still choose them manually?
– Has anyone tested this on affiliate sites specifically, where internal linking can affect both SEO and conversion flow?
– Do you think internal linking is becoming more important again with all the GEO / AI search changes,
