ParticipantI’ve been testing a few AI workflows on a couple of niche sites over the last few months, and I’m curious where people here are landing on this.
My setup is fairly basic:
– WordPress sites
– mostly informational content
– a mix of manual writing and AI-assisted drafting
– internal linking handled with a semi-automated workflow
– some light on-page optimization based on SERP analysisWhat I’m seeing is that AI can definitely speed up production, but the ranking impact is a lot less predictable than the tool vendors make it sound.
A few observations so far:
1. **Content quality still seems to matter more than “optimization score”**
I’ve tried pushing pages with high tool scores, and some of them still underperform compared to manually written pieces that are less “optimized” on paper but better aligned with intent.2. **Internal linking probably has more impact than people give it credit for**
On one site, adding a more deliberate internal link structure moved several pages up without changing the content much. Nothing dramatic, but enough to make me think the site architecture was doing more work than the AI rewrite.3. **AI content needs strong editorial constraints**
Left on its own, it tends to produce generic sections, repetitive phrasing, and occasional factual drift. It’s fine as a drafting layer, but I don’t trust it as a final pass without human review.4. **GEO / AI search visibility is still messy**
I’ve seen a few pages get cited in AI-generated answers, but the correlation with traditional rankings isn’t always obvious. Some pages with decent organic traffic never show up in those systems, while thinner pages sometimes do.What I’m trying to figure out is whether anyone has a repeatable process that actually improves rankings, not just content output.
Specifically:
– Are you using AI mainly for drafting, optimization, or internal linking?
– Have you seen measurable gains after content refreshes powered by AI?
– Do you think “SEO scoring” tools are useful, or mostly vanity metrics?
– Has anyone found a workflow that improves both Google rankings and GEO visibility? My current view is that AI is useful as an assistant, but not a strategy by itself. The sites that seem to do best still have:
– clear topical focus
– strong internal linking
– real intent matching
– decent authority signals
